This news is all a little late because no one has had time to write it. HoN is shaping up to be HUGE in comparison to the Savage series with more then 25,000 players online at peak times. Hopefully HoN will be very popular and shed some light on XR.
What is Heroes of Newerth?
Heroes of Newerth is S2Games next title heavily based on the popular Warcraft 3 mod, Defense of The Ancients (DotA). Two teams of up to five players each take the role of a Hero unit for the entire match. They are assisted with AI-controlled units referred to as creeps. Each team must destroy the other team's base, much like in Savage. As a match progresses, players earn gold and experience to help make their Hero more powerful. HoN is an incredibly deep, tactical team-based game with some very addictive game-play.
All Newerth.com users receive beta keys!
S2Games has sent ALL Newerth.com users a beta key for HoN. Maybe this will stop the begging in the HoN boards? Actually I doubt it. Anyways, you should be able to play with all your Savage friends now and show them how pro you are... or wish you were.
Heroes of Newerth Official Site Launched and Debut Trailer
Recently S2Games launched the official website for Heroes of Newerth along with a debut trailer which can be seen
here. The website currently shows what heroes you can use with detailed information about their skills and statistics. There is also similar information for items and recipes. There is a media page showing a heap of concept art and screenshots, as well as any official trailers. Then you can see links to areas which are not yet finished, they are: wiki, replays and maps.

The website also outlines the various features that HoN will have including a map editor. If it is good enough to attract modders (I know it already has on Newerth.com) then we might see some nice new maps, heroes, mods and who knows what else.
Ability to Pre Purchase and NDA Lifted
Recently S2Games added the ability for beta testers to pre purchase Heroes of Newerth.
Here is a statement from the man in charge.

Why Pre Purchase? I gave you a small prelude to that in the paragraph above. Heroes of Newerth cost a lot to operate. While this is built into the budget of (what we consider to be VERY reasonable) price of $30 USD and operating the service after our initial release date, we need assistance in the interim. |
